Chicken Shawarma

Craving for shawarma? But can’t find a shawarma stand near your place. Try these chicken shawarma recipe. Fast and easy to make at home together with your kids. Enjoy it with the creamy and tangy sauce.


• 250 grams chicken breast
• 1/4 cup yogurt
• salt and pepper to taste
• 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

• 1 piece onion, halved and thinly sliced
• 3 to 4 pcs. Large pita bread
• 1 cup tomatoes, chopped
• 1 pc. small cucumber, sliced
• 1/2 cup lettuce, shredded


• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 1/2 cup yogurt
• 1 teaspoon hot sauce or chili powder
• 1/4 cup lite mayonnaise
• pinch of salt and pepper, to taste


1.) Marinate chicken breast with yogurt. Season with cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Put in a chiller for 20 to 30 minutes.

2.) Heat griddle over medium high heat. Put chicken, turning once until cooked through.

3.) Place chicken to a cutting board. Slice breast into thin bite size strips. In a hot pan, sauté onions, until slightly soft or you can just add it to your shawarma uncooked.

4.) To make sauce: in a small bowl, mix all ingredients until all blended.

5.) Assemble sandwich. Cut open pita bread, put chicken slices, add some onions, tomato and cucumber strips. Top with sauce. Garnish with shredded lettuce.

Serve and enjoy! You can also use beef or grilled fish fillet.
