300 grams chicken breast or thigh fillet, cut into strips
1/2 cup honey
2 pieces lemon
juice of 1 1/2 lemons
1 teaspoon lemon zest, grated
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch ( for the batter)
1 teaspoon cornstarch (for the sauce)
2 cups water
1 teaspoon sugar
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon cracked pepper
1 teaspoon salt
enough cooking oil for deep frying
sliced lemons and fresh parsley to decorate
*Marinate chicken strips with soy sauce and set aside.
For the batter:
*Combine flour, cornstarch and salt. Pour 1 cup of water in the flour mixture and mix well.
How to cook the battered chicken:
*Add in the chicken strips into the batter mixture, combine well.
*Heat cooking oil and deep fry chicken strips, making sure that strips don’t stick with each other. Fry until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel. Set aside.
For the Honey Lemon Sauce:
*Combine honey, lemon juice, sugar, 1 cup of water and cornstarch. Mix well and cook sauce mixture under low fire until it thickens. Season with pepper.
*Place chicken strips in a mixing bowl and pour in the honey lemon sauce and combine well, ensuring the chicken are all well covered with sauce. Transfer onto a serving plate and decorate with sliced lemons and fresh parsley. Enjoy your meal!
