We all have our own level of tolerance for hot and spicy food. Try this savory hot condiments, which you can easily make at home. For extra zing, add few drops of this to any stir-fried dish.


1 cup peanut oil or vegetable oil
2 tablespoons Szechwan peppercorns
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
3-4 dried hot chili pepper


* Heat peppercorns in a frying pan over medium-low heat, shaking pan occasionally until fragrant, for about 7 to 10 minutes. Let it cool. Coarsely grind with rolling pin or mortar and pestle. Heat peanut/vegetable oil until hot; add in peppercorns, then stir in cayenne pepper and dried hot chili pepper. Let it cool.

* Store in a covered jar at room temperature.

Adjust ingredients for a larger serving.
